What April feels like
If the blossoms run late, the first week of April is the crowd surge: the Tidal Basin loop goes shoulder to shoulder and the Metro at Smithsonian backs up onto the platform. Once the petals drop, the walking weather is the best of the spring and the pollen on the car hoods is the only real complaint.
Expect about 6 days with real rain — enough to notice, not enough to plan around. The air runs dry — whatever the thermometer says, it wears easy.
